Statistics of Peculiar Velocities from Cosmic Strings

چکیده

We calculate the probability distribution of a single component of peculiar velocities due to cosmic strings, smoothed over regions with a radius of several h 1 Mpc. The probability distribution is shown to be Gaussian to good accuracy, in agreement with the distribution of peculiar velocities deduced from the 1.9 Jy IRAS redshift survey. Using the normalization of parameters of the cosmic string model from CMB measurements, we show that the rms values for peculiar velocities inferred from IRAS are consistent with the cosmic string model provided that long strings have some small-scale structure. key words: cosmic strings ; large-scale structure of Universe ; cosmology:theory e-mail address [email protected] ; address from October: Max Planck Institut f ur Astrophysik, Karl-Schwarzschild-Str. 1, 85740 Garching bei M unchen, Germany

Peculiar Velocities and Microwave Background Anisotropies from Cosmic Strings

Using an analytic model we show that the predictions of the cosmic string model for the peculiar velocities and the microwave background (MBR) anisotropy depend on similar combinations of string evolution parameters. Normalizing from the COBE detection of MBR anisotropy, and for certain reasonable values of string network evolution parameters, we find that the magnitude of predicted velocity fl...

Massless radiation from Strings: quantum spectrum average statistics and cusp-kink configurations

We derive general formulae for computing the average spectrum for Bosonic or Fermionic massless emission from generic or particular sets of closed superstring quantum states, among the many occurring at a given large value of the number operator. In particular we look for states that can produce a Bosonic spectrum resembling the classical spectrum expected for peculiar cusp-like or kink-like cl...

Cerenkov Radiation from Collisions of Straight Cosmic (super)strings

We consider Cerenkov radiation which must arise when randomly oriented straight cosmic (super)strings move with relativistic velocities without intercommutation. String interactions via dilaton, two-form and gravity (gravity being the dominant force in the ultra-relativistic regime) leads to formation of superluminal sources which generate Cerenkov radiation of dilatons and axions. Though the e...

Enear Redshift-distance Survey: Cosmological Constraints

We present an analysis of the ENEAR sample of peculiar velocities of field and cluster elliptical galaxies, obtained with Dn–σ distances. We use the velocity correlation function, ψ1(r), to analyze the statistics of the field–object’s velocities, while the analysis of the cluster data is based on the estimate of their r.m.s. peculiar velocity, Vrms. The results are compared with predictions fro...
